Congrats! The recruiters are now eager to get you on the phone, even moving you along to the hiring manager as they think you could be the one.
Now, my product friend, the real games begin.
As I’ve said before - product managers are the cool kids at the tech org. A PM will not get a job offer unless the hiring manager & other stakeholders are genuinely excited and impressed with the candidate. The main thing I must see in any PM I hire onto my team is intellectual horsepower. I need you to be able to think so I have confidence you can jump into ambiguous, confusing situations and sort things out. If I’m hiring a junior PM, that may be the only thing I look for.
You - young aspiring product manager - have the opportunity to show hiring managers you’ve got a high octane motor in that brain of yours during the interview process. The way you do this is by prepping well before the interview starts.
I want you to be so ready that when any question is asked, without hesitation you’ve got the perfect story to demonstrate your product skill and prowess. You won’t miss a beat when talking to the hiring manager, and you’ll have a seemingly endless list of anecdotes to show off you killing it as an operator.
